Why Are Disposable Pulsed Lavage Used in Replacement Joints?

news-1-1

Disposable Pulsed Lavage is used for the cleaning of wound debridement, soft tissue debridementand surgical operative field.

The pressure pump in the handpiece is driven by a DC motor and is connected to a battery bag to supply power. The inlet of the pressure pump is connected to the cleaning liquid storage box by the flushing pipe. An outlet of the pressure pump is connected to an integral nozzle for punching and sucking. A negative pressure suction pipe is connected to a flushing integral spray head negative pressure port. When the handpiece started, then the pressure pump could wash, and the negative pressure suction tube could do vacuum drainage with an external negative pressure suction device.

"The routine use of pulsed or pressurized lavage appears to be the single most important factor in preparing the bone bed. It is essential in achieving adequate and uniform penetration of bone cement and a sound cement-bone interface."

Disposable Pulsed lavage is purported to improve radiographic survival in cemented total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

All tibial components were implanted with the same cementing procedure. Cement penetration and bone mineral density were measured using computed tomography data. A pull-out test was performed on the tibial trays using a material testing equipment to determine their fixation strength. Pulsed lavage considerably increased median pull-out forces and cement penetration (p = 0.031) when compared to syringe lavage. Enhanced fixation strength is indicated as a factor to improved implant survival. As a result, pulsed lavage should be regarded a necessary preparation step for cementing tibial components in TKA.
