Hot Snare Polypectomy Vs. Cool Snare Polypectomy

Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) contrasting CSP(Cold snare polypectomy) and HSP(Hot snare polypectomy) for excision of colorectal polyps between 4 and 10 mm were taken into consideration. Studies that retrieved biopsy samples from the resection margin to verify the absence of remaining tissue and reported problems were considered for the study. The outcome metrics were IRR and complication rate. The odds ratios (OR) or risk difference with a 95% confidence interval were used to report the pooled rates (CI).

Because to its high rates of full resection, appropriate tissue sampling for histology, and low complication rates, CSP is the preferable approach according to the most recent European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) guidelines for the removal of small polyps (size 5 mm) 18. They also recommend CSP(Cold snare polypectomy) for sessile polyps 6 to 9 mm in size due to its improved safety profile, even if there isn't enough data to compare CSP's effectiveness to HSP 18.

RCTs (randomized controlled trials) have recently evaluated the effectiveness of HSP(Hot snare polypectomy) with CSP(Cold snare polypectomy) for colorectal polyps between 4 and 10 mm, with inconsistent results 19–21. With the aim of comparing the IRR and unfavorable outcomes between CSP and HSP when removing polyps between 4 and 10 mm in size, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of the available evidence in light of this discrepancy and the dearth of supporting evidence for the current guidelines for polypectomy. For more details, please contact me: shan@bjzksk.com; 0086-13792183575.
