Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedure used to evaluate and treat diseases affecting the bile ducts and pancreas. It combines endoscopic and radiologic techniques to view and treat the biliary and pancreatic systems. During the procedure, a flexible tube with a light and camera is inserted through the mouth, down the esophagus, and into the small intestine. A dye is injected into the bile and pancreatic ducts, and X-rays are taken to identify any abnormalities such as gallstones, tumors, or blockages. ERCP can also be used to remove stones, place stents, and collect tissue samples for further examination. It is a highly effective and minimally invasive method for diagnosing and treating biliary and pancreatic disorders.
