The filled balloon occupies space in your stomach. Hospitalization is usually not required-after a few hours of postoperative observation, you may go home.

*Removal: The balloon must be removed via endoscope 12 months after placement.

*Chew slowly and eat calmly. Use a small plate to help control portion sizes.

*Stop eating if you experience acid reflux or bloating.

*Follow a structured meal plan: three meals and one snack per day.

*Stay hydrated: Drink at least 1.5 liters of water daily.

*Timing matters: Drink one to two glasses of water 30 minutes before a meal and two glasses 30 minutes after to help clean the balloon and prevent food retention-related vomiting.

*Avoid carbonated drinks, strong tea, coffee, and smoking.

*Eat dinner early, finishing at least two hours before bedtime.

*Stay active: Walk for at least 15 minutes a day.

An intragastric balloon can help you feel full faster when eating, often leading to reduced food intake. This may be due to the balloon slowing down stomach emptying and potentially altering appetite-controlling hormone levels. However, the effectiveness also depends on lifestyle changes, including diet and exercise.

According to current treatment data, weight loss typically ranges from 12% to 40% within six months of intragastric balloon placement.
